Bricktown Oklahoma City - The Old Warehouse District Becomes The New Entertainment District

Bricktown Oklahoma City is a rejuvenated warehouse district that has been resurrected into a new entertainment district.

Bricktown Oklahoma City is a collection of warehouses and other buildings that were built starting in the late 1800's and early 1900's.

These buildings were built around the Santa Fe Railroad and had red brick as a common building characteristic.

With developments and cheaper land on the outskirts of the city, the Bricktown area became a collection of abandoned warehouses and dilapidated buildings.

In the early 1990's Oklahoma City passed the MAPS project. This was a sales tax that was used to revive the area.

The Bricktown Canal was built and a series of dams along the North Canadian River formed a 7 mile chain of river lakes that were renamed the Oklahoma River.

The 12,000 seat AT&T Bricktown Ballpark and the 20,000 seat Ford Center (home of the Oklahoma City Thunder NBA franchise) were also built with MAPS funds.

Today, Bricktown Oklahoma City has restaurants, night clubs, shopping, a movie theater complex, and a river taxi service.
